The school features full-time kindergarten, self-contained classrooms in grades 1-4, and a middle school philosophy and program for grades 5-8. Students in grades 9-12 attend Portsmouth High School. Newington Public School houses about 50 students in grades K-6. Students in grades 7-8 attend Portsmouth Middle School; students in grades 9-12 attend Portsmouth High School. Maude H. Trefethen School in New Castle houses about 30 students in grades K-5. Students in grades 6-8 attend either Portsmouth Middle School or Rye Junior High School.
